Soccer tipsters Former world number 21 Johnson: I was convinced that Sinner would have one victory in his life - over me

Steve Johnson told how he almost ended his career because of Jannik Sinner. The former 21st racket of the world recalled their match on the Nothing Major podcast.
It was in 2019 at a tournament in Rome. I played well, was 59th in the ranking, and felt fine. I knew that I might have problems playing at my best level on the Foro Italico courts, but I was confident in myself.
In the first round I had to face a 17-year-old local guy and they put me on center court. I was a little worried, but as soon as the match started I knew I had to win. He was a very skinny guy, I couldn`t imagine how he could interfere with me, and he calmly won the first set.
I hadn`t heard anything about him at all and told myself that it would be a shame to lose this match. In the second set I started poorly - I made mistakes, played terribly. The meeting went into the third set - I had a chance to win, but in the end I missed everything (Johnson led 4:1, then he had a match prediction by archive of soccer tips point at 5:3-Sports).
When I walked into the locker room, I called my agent and told him to cancel all commitments because I was retiring from tennis. I couldn`t deal with the shame of losing to this guy. I told him I was beaten by a terrible 17 year old. Both the agent and the coach told me to give Yannick time because they thought he would be a great player, although I was convinced that he would have one win in his life - against me. I was consumed by shame.
I`m delighted with what a good scout I am (laughs). I couldn`t imagine that in five years everything would be the way it is now, but I`m glad that I left my mark on tennis history with this match.
Johnson retired in March.
